The Spoleto Festival

A true celebration of the arts, the annual Spoleto Festival is back in the Holy City from May 22, 2024, to June 9, 2024.

This internationally renowned festival brings together artists from all over the world for a 17-day celebration right here in Charleston.

You’ll get a taste of live jazz, opera, theater, and dance in beautiful historic venues and outdoor spots. Get a full list of performances and the event schedule here.

Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival

Since sweetgrass basket art originated in Mount Pleasant, it’s no wonder that Charleston celebrates this tradition every year with the Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival. It honors the history and influence of the Gullah Geechee people with a day dedicated to entertainment, activities, and educational fun for the entire family.

You can find an incredible array of hand-made crafts, art, and jewelry unique to the Lowcountry at this festival on July 27, 2024.

Charleston Carifest

As the premier Caribbean Carnival celebration in the Lowcountry, Charleston Carifest honors Caribbean American Heritage Month with a three-day festival filled with delicious food, DJs, live performers, and stunning costumes that celebrate Caribbean culture.

Taking place from June 13, 2024, to June 16, 2024, the weekend also includes a pineapple eating contest, hat-making, and a street parade right through downtown Charleston.

There’s always something fun going on in Charleston. We’ve put together a list of some of the most enjoyable activities you can partake in this summer.

First Friday ArtWalks

Held on the first Friday of each month, the First Friday ArtWalks in Charleston are one of the best ways to experience the Holy City's thriving arts scene.

From 5 pm to 8 pm, the historic streets of downtown Charleston transform into a creative arts space where local galleries, studios, and businesses open their doors. You can explore different art forms, including paintings, sculptures, photography, and mixed media, all hosted by the Charleston Gallery Association.

Whether you're an avid art collector or simply appreciate art and want to get out and enjoy the city, this is an ongoing event you’ll definitely want to partake in.

Weekend Wine Down

Held rain or shine (or as they like to say, “When it rains, we pour!”), Weekend Wine Down takes place at Deep Water Vineyard every Saturday in the summer from 11:30 am to 4 pm, featuring food trucks, live music, drinks, and wine tastings every hour on the hour.

The event is both dog-friendly and kid-friendly, so go ahead and bring the entire family and enjoy a sip at the vineyard!

Cape Romain Milky Way Expedition

If you’re a lover of the outdoors, Coastal Expeditions is something you need to try. The Cape Romain Milky Way Expedition is a spectacular way to enjoy the outdoors while getting a look at the Milky Way galaxy.

The tour starts with a sunset expedition through Cape Romain where you can then set up blankets and enjoy a view of the stars in the pleasant summer evening air. Don’t forget to bring your camera! The views are something you won’t want to forget.
